Turning of the Tassel presented by Legacy Foundation of Hartford (Greg and Lauren Jones) and Alt Finance (Marcus Shaw) is a powerful celebration honoring the resilience, achievement, and potential of graduating seniors from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Predominantly Black Institutions (PBIs) who have overcome financial barriers to reach commencement. These students represent the future of Black excellence—bold, brilliant, and unstoppable.

Since 2020, the HBCU GAP Fund has helped more than 2,000 students cross the finish line by eliminating small but critical financial shortfalls that would have otherwise kept them from graduating. But we're just getting started. Over the next five years, we’re committed to doing even more—expanding our impact, investing in futures, and transforming lives.

Held annually in Martha’s Vineyard, Turning of the Tassel brings together changemakers, philanthropists, and thought leaders to celebrate these graduates and support the mission of closing the education gap for Black students. Your ticket purchase directly supports this life-changing work. Join us for an evening of inspiration, purpose, and possibility—because every student deserves to turn their tassel.
