I believe leadership means more than achieving for yourself—it means using what you’ve been given to create opportunities for others. Whether I’m placing a book into the hands of a child, spending time with an elder living with Alzheimer’s, supporting patients at Grady Memorial Hospital, or advocating alongside other young leaders, I’ve learned that some of the most meaningful moments in my life happen when I am serving someone else. I am Gabrielle, a 4.0 student at Fusion Academy with aspirations of becoming a physician. I recently returned from an incredible study abroad experience at Cambridge University in the United Kingdom, and I am honored to have been selected for this year’s Jack and Jill GMAC Leadership Program and Debutante Cotillion. But the accomplishment I am perhaps most proud of is building a life centered around service. I founded Gabbie’s Pages of Hope, my personal book drive initiative, because I believe every child deserves the opportunity to discover what is possible through reading. Through the initiative, I have collected hundreds of books for elementary and middle school students and donated them to a library serving underserved children. For the past two summers, I have served as a Teen Ambassador at Grady Memorial Hospital, contributing more than 150 volunteer hours each summer. There, I have been able to explore my dream of becoming a physician while supporting medical professionals and patients during their healing journeys. I also volunteer with Generation Connect at A.G. Rhodes Nursing Home, spending meaningful time with elders living with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. My commitment to service extends to my Jack and Jill community. After serving as Teen Editor, I now serve as Legislative Chair. Alongside an incredible group of young African American leaders, I have packed medical supplies for MedShare, assembled hygiene kits for people experiencing homelessness, and delivered meals through Meals on Wheels of Atlanta. These experiences have shaped the young woman I am becoming. They have taught me that service isn’t simply something you do when you have time. It is a responsibility—and a way of life. My Debutante Cotillion is a celebration of that journey and the beginning of the woman I hope to become: a physician, a leader, and someone who continues to open doors and create opportunities for others.
